[PERMANENTLY CLOSED] American-Style Home Baked Cookies at We Love Cookies

Right next to Sababa Pita Bar near Taipower Building lies We Love Cookies, a hole-in-the-wall, no-frills cookie and cupcake shop that we must have walked past a hundred times without noticing. It wasn’t until three different friends recommended it to us for their authentic American-style cookies that we took note and decided to try it out one day.

There was no sign (that we could see), which is probably why we walked past it so many times. The storefront opens onto the street with an unassuming display of cupcakes and a sheet of cookies resting on a wall. There isn’t much to the interior, though it definitely has a cozy, lived-in feel.

We Love Cookies doesn’t have a menu, just a little wooden sign stating that all of their cookies are $30, while their cupcakes are $60. They have a few deals too: buy two cupcakes and get a free cookie, buy a cupcake with two cookies and get a free cookie, and buy four cookies and get a free cookie. We felt that $30 was okay for a cookie to begin with, but these deals make them even better!

When we went, they had a pretty good selection despite not having many cookies left. From the right, the cookies are peanut butter, cranberry cornflake,  oatmeal raisin, brownie, brownie with powdered sugar, Japanese matcha, chocolate and mango, and chocolate chip.

We split the cookies among friends, eating them too quickly to take individual pictures. Mango chocolate was our favourite — the cookie was moist and the dried mango chunks were sweet and chewy, pairing surprisingly well with the chocolate. The brownie and chocolate chip cookies were good too, and the oatmeal raisin was nice even if it was a little dry. The peanut butter was a bit too dry and flaky, with not much to distinguish it, and the cranberry corn flake was disappointingly bland. None of the cookies were bad, but some were definitely better than others, maybe because they were over-baked or sitting out for too long. Still, for $30 we were happy to have tried a bunch.

They also have a delicious selection of cupcakes. We tried banana & chocolate and red velvet. Both were good, just like the sort you would get back home. At $60 each we thought they were pretty reasonable, although they were slightly on the small side.

All in all, We Love Cookies is a good place for when you’re in the mood for some good old home-baked cookies. The cookies are good, even if they’re not the best in Taipei — FYI, Coffee DPT in Huashan is where those are at — and remind us of what our moms used to make.

What’s the vibe?

Hole-in-the-wall cafe near Taipower Building selling freshly-baked American cookies.

Worth it?

Yes! Even though the quality varied from cookie to cookie, on the whole they were all good, and we didn’t spend too much money.

Would you go back?

Sure. Sometimes you need some home-baked cookies and milk to remind you of home.
