Tasty Mediterranean Food at the Pita Bar

The Pita Bar is a nice looking restaurant in Tianmu serving up some tasty and fresh Mediterranean food. We’ve passed by it on multiple occasions and have been tempted by the delicious smells wafting out — and the satisfied looking expat families — so one sunny Tuesday we decided to finally try it for ourselves.

The interior of the restaurant is modern and sleek. We loved the pretty blue tiles at the bar, and appreciated their strong aircon blasting away. The waitress spoke excellent English and provided us with some good recommendations.

For drinks, we ordered a couple of craft beers from the fridge that were pretty good, and also sampled some of their specialty lemonade ($60) which is made with fresh lemons and mint.

For food, the first thing we ordered was the lamb kebab ($260) which came with five kebabs over grilled onions and mashed potatoes, accompanied by an Israeli salad with a tahini dressing and some pita bread. The kebabs were delicious and the mashed potato and grilled onion were nice together. The salad was fresh and tasty — we loved the tahini dressing on top. Our one gripe was that, for the price, it wasn’t a huge amount of food.

We also ordered the falafel ($250), which came with hummus, pita, and an Israeli salad. The falafel were very tasty, although we requested some fresh lemon to squeeze on top, and the hummus was fresh and creamy. We stuffed some salad and falafel inside the pita and ate them together. It was all great, but again, we did feel like it wasn’t a huge serving for the price.

We also tried some of their vine leaves (four for $150) which we wolfed down before remembering to take photos. They were phenomenal but quite small for what we paid.

All in all, we really enjoyed our food at the Pita Bar but felt the prices were a tad higher than we were comfortable with. This didn’t surprise us since Tianmu is not known for being cheap, but we wished we could have enjoyed this meal without it being so hard on our wallet. Still, we liked everything that we ate, and it’s nice to have another Mediterranean option in town. (And if you’d prefer a cheaper option, you can always try Falafel King or Sababa Pita Bar‘s night market stall in Gongguan Night Market)

What’s the vibe?

Sleek but cozy Mediterranean restaurant that caters to the Tianmu crowd. Lots of expat families eat here.

Worth it?

The food was nice, but it wasn’t cheap. There are better value options out there, but we enjoyed what we had.

Would you go back?

To be honest we probably wouldn’t, just because it was slightly more expensive than we would have liked.
