Craft Beer and Tacos at The Local

The Local will transport you to your favourite pub from back home. Tucked in an alley just a few minutes walk from Technology Station MRT, this foreign-operated bar has 6 taps of imported and local craft beer and serves American comfort foods like grilled cheese and nachos. Great vibes make for a cozy environment, while themed nights and pop-up chefs give it some pulse.

The Canadian owner Shawn is passionate about beer and always willing to chat. He’s designed the bar to give a just-like-home feel: chilled out music, screens looping extreme sports, and fridges packed full of imported bottles and cans. It’s the perfect place to hang out with friends and meet other foreigners.

Go for craft beer, comfort food, and great conversation – then come back on a different night for new offers. Check out the bar’s weekday themes below:

Monday is all about NFL, bloody marys (NT$200), and sloppy joes (NT$150).

On Tuesday, eat unlimited tacos supplied by Quantum for NT$400 while drinking one litre steins of craft beer for NT$299.

Go for beer cocktails on Wednesday and try some cool creations like The Evil Cold Brewed Martini and the Rowhard Rootbeer Caipirinha for only NT$200.

Thursday is game night, serving Cards Against Humanity, craft beer bingo, and pub quizzes with pints of draft beer for NT$150.

Get more tacos on Friday from pop-up Machin Taco, Taipei’s #1 tacos al pastori: a single for NT$99 or three for NT$250.

While doing its part to fuel Taipei’s craft beer scene, The Local also has cold brew nitro coffee on tap and a limited cocktail menu. In addition, it offers the perfect comfort food: a selection of grilled cheese sandwiches (classic with cheddar, rosemary bread, garlic or truffle oil for NT$150; jalapeño, pesto, kimchi variations for NT$180), grilled right at the bar and served with a large dill pickle.

We visited for a Taco Tuesday in October. I went for a pint of Citra Hopped IPA for NT$180 and was instantly refreshed by the smooth citrus and hops – a delicious beer that I recommend.

Not hungry enough for all-you-can-eat, I opted for 2 tacos (chicken and pork) for NT$160, prepared by a Quantum chef in the kitchen. They were nothing special, but not bad for all-you-can eat.

What’s the vibe?

Chilled out environment perfect for hanging out with friends or striking conversation, with tasty bites and great beer that remind of home.

Worth it?

Yes.

The friendly staff, chill atmosphere, and great craft beer make The Local worth visiting, even if the tacos weren’t anything special.

Would you go back?

We already did!

(Their cold brew is absolutely delicious by the way)

The themed nights give reason to return, and we’re looking forward to trying out some of the other comfort foods when we’re craving a taste of home.
