Healthy Western Mix-and-Match Salads at The Greenery

One of our only complaints about the Taipei food scene is the lack of fresh, cheap salads for a casual meal. That’s why we were beyond excited to discover The Greenery, a western-style to-go counter that serves a variety of mix-and-match salads at affordable prices. The original location is in the Global Mall in Nangang, but we’ve only visited their newer spot right next to Zhongshan MRT station. We love it so much, we’ve been back multiple times every week to pick up quick and healthy lunches and dinners.

The Zhongshan location is in the downstairs food court of the Nanxi Eslite Mall, which is right next to the MRT (easily accessible from the red or green lines). It’s basically just a to-go counter with only 3 stools for seating. It’s open during regular mall hours, from 11am – 10pm, but note that their salad options become more limited and less fresh later in the evening.

All of the pre-made salads are on display behind the counter. To order, you need to first select your size of container. The small ($125) allows you 2 choices of salad, the medium ($150) gives you 3 choices, and the large ($175) gives you 4 choices. After paying, you can point to whichever salads you want and the staff will fill up your container.

There are often more than 15 different salad options, which rotate and change on a daily basis. They include everything from your standard greens with veggies to mixed beans, pastas, and rice. Some of the salads have meat (fried or grilled chicken, marinated beef), cheese (feta, mozzarella, cheddar), and other premium ingredients like avocado, mango, and nuts.

After packing the container full with your selections, they’ll ask for your choice of dressing from the 6 above. Be warned that the English names can be a little deceiving — for example, the “Balsamic” dressing is pink and sweet, which came as a surprise (it still tasted good though). You can also add specific ingredients to your salad for small additional cost.

As we said, we’ve been back to The Greenery many times after discovering it. The salads above are just a few of the different combinations we’ve chosen. Each of them are a large size, meaning there are 4 different types of salad packed together.

They also have a variety of sandwich styles on their menu, including croissant, wrap, panini, and baguette. We tried their Triple Cheese sandwich ($135), which has big chunks of chicken coated in — you guessed it — 3 kinds of melted cheese. It looked great, but honestly it fell short of expectations and obviously wasn’t nearly as healthy as a salad would have been. We think we’ll just stick to the salads from now on!

Check out the full menu, including plenty of drink options from teas to smoothies. They also have rotating soups that change on a daily basis. You can get a bowl for $90, or a combo deal of a small salad, panini, and small soup for $299. This would definitely make a much more substantial meal, but keep in mind you’ll probably need to take it to go because seating is so limited.

We really love The Greenery because it reminds us of a nice salad counter we’d find in a Western country. Though we haven’t tried the drinks or the soup, we recommend sticking to the salads. We’ve been going back for weeks and haven’t got bored since there are so many different possible combinations (we get excited to choose our mix each time). The salads are healthy, quick, affordable, and taste great — what’s not to love?

What’s the vibe?

Simple to-go counter in a food court with a few stools for seating. Start by selecting your container size, then choosing the salads to fill it from the ones on display.

Worth it?

Absolutely! It’s so nice having a place to get quick, healthy, affordable salads on the go.

Would you go back?

We go multiple times per week!
