Great Food and Beers at Taihu Craft Beer Tasting Room

Taihu is one of the most recognized craft beer brands in Taiwan. Their beers are sold in numerous bars across the city (including one of our favourites, Driftwood), and you can even find their cans in convenience stores. But the best place to enjoy a pint of Taihu is at their feature taproom, Chuoyinshi Da’an, right next to Zhongxiao Fuxing station. It’s a cool hangout spot and it’s got a huge selection of draft beer, plus tasty bar food to share!

Taihu Craft Beer Tasting Room is a stylish space with a modern/minimalist aesthetic. The exposed brick, hanging lights, and bright, clean menu above the bar add nice touches. It’s got long communal tables lined with stools that make it feel more social than most other bars in Taipei — whenever we’ve visited, the air has been buzzing with conversation and an excited energy. Taihu gets crowded on weekend evenings and you might be hard pressed to find a seat, but the friendly staff has always gone above and beyond to accommodate us.

Of course craft beer is the focus here. Taihu’s got a big selection on tap, from simple ales to heavier stouts. Prices are in the $150 – $250 range, with ABVs between 4.5% and 10%. Some of our favourites include the Taihu IPA, the Fruit Saison, and the outlandish Long Island Iced Beer, which tastes just as you’d expect (long island iced tea mixed with beer) and hits hard at 9.9%. There’s so much selection, you’re bound to find a beer you like!

Taihu also serves bar food that’s designed to be shared. They’ve got classic orders like fries, chicken tenders/wings, and calamari. These are mostly for snacking on, but there are also some heavier items (like our orders below) that make Taihu a suitable place for dinner!

Stack Burger ($275)

The burgers at Taihu are customizable. First you choose a size: Mini (single patty, $200), Stack (two patties, $275), or Fat (three patties, $350). You can then choose to add any number of the following ingredients: sliced onions (free), sautéed onions (free), jalapeños (free), cheese ($15), sunny side up egg ($30), an extra patty ($60) and bacon ($60).

We chose sautéed onions and jalapeños, loving that these premium ingredients could be added for no additional cost. And of course we paid the $15 for cheese as well. The Stack Burger wasn’t a huge portion by western standards, but it still filled us up without stuffing us. More importantly, it was delicious. The bun was fresh and those added ingredients really stepped it up above your average burger.

Chorizo Mac & Cheese ($280)

This gooey, cheesy delight was totally worth the price. The strong cheese and chorizo flavours really hit the spot. It was great for sharing — we passed out spoons and polished it off within minutes. So. Tasty.

We loved the beers, food, and vibe at Taihu. It was the perfect spot to catch up with friends for a tasty bite and get a little tipsy. We’ve already been back and are sure we’ll keep returning in the future!

What’s the vibe?

Stylish and social bar with dozens of craft beers on tap and plenty of food for sharing. It’s frequented by both locals and foreigners.

Worth it?

Absolutely — with great beers, tasty food, and a fun atmosphere, what’s not to love?

Would you go back?

We already have! And we’ve added Taihu to our list of go-to bars.
