Rainbow Soup Dumplings at Paradise Dynasty

Located on the fourth floor of the upscale Breeze Xinyi Mall next to Taipei City Hall MRT Station, Paradise Dynasty is a Singapore-owned restaurant serving high-quality Chinese cuisine.

After hearing rumours that the food rivals local favourite Din Tai Fung and seeing their signature rainbow xiaolongbao dish all over instagram, we decided to pay it a visit.

The interior of the restaurant is sleek and modern. We booked a reservation for Sunday dinner and were glad we did so after seeing the crowds inside.

Though the menu is extensive, we were there for one reason: rainbow soup dumplings. Paradise Dynasty’s signature dish is an attention-grabber due to its uniquely coloured xiaolongbao. And it’s not just a gimmick: each of the dumplings has a different flavour of soup stored inside.

The variety xiaolongbao is priced at NT$340 and served piping hot in a bamboo steamer, with a small card depicting the 8 different flavours. There’s even a recommended order to eat them in for optimal enjoyment.

You don’t need any soy sauce or vinegar, as they’re already packed with flavour. For us, the winners were the foie gras and black truffle due to their uniqueness, but each of the soup dumplings was tasty (apart from the ginseng, which we’re still not sure about).

It was fun to try each dumpling one-by-one and discuss the flavour. We left feeling satisfied with our experience.

What’s the vibe?

Upscale Chinese restaurant packed with hungry locals. The high turnover and speedy service gives the sleek environment a dose of hectic energy.

Worth it?

Yes.

It’s worth going once for the experience of trying each flavoured soup dumpling one-by-one and rating them with friends, even considering the NT$340 price tag for 8.

Would you go back?

Maybe.

The rainbow xiaolongbao was more of a novelty dish, but it was tasty enough to go back with friends. We’ve also heard the rest of the menu is delicious.
