Delicious Taiwanese and Chinese Cuisine at Mazendo
Mazendo is a modern Taiwanese restaurant chain serving up some Chinese staples like mapo dofu and Hainanese chicken rice as well as classic Taiwanese dishes like beef noodle soup or stinky tofu with duck blood. Prices are higher than you would pay in the average place serving local food, but still completely affordable. One of our Taiwanese friends introduced it to us after we moved to Taipei, and it’s been one of our go-to restaurants ever since.
There are a number of Mazendo stores around Taipei and they are usually busy, but most of the time not too busy that you can’t get a table. Their restaurants are comfortable but polished, with attentive staff, giving them a slightly Din Tai Fung-y vibe.
First up, noodles in spicy sauce for NT$70. We order these every time we go because they are so good. The noodles are chewy but not rubbery, the sauce has the perfect balance of spice, and the cucumbers give it some freshness and a slight crunch. It’s not a huge portion, but we urge you to try it. Note: we’ve had mixed results ordering this on UberEats because the noodles can get a little soggy when they’re left for long periods of time. Be warned!
Next up were dumplings in sesame sauce (NT$80). The dumplings are steamed to perfection with a delicious pork filling, and the sesame sauce is the perfect accompaniment. We’ve also had the ones in spicy sauce (the same spicy sauce as the noodles above) and they were great too.
Last, we ordered noodles in mala with beef slices (NT$200). It was our first time trying it and it didn’t disappoint — the soup was spicy without being unbearable and the meat was cooked to perfection. The portion was big enough for four of us to happily share.
Just look at it! We’d definitely order it again.
Although we only ordered a few things this time, we’ve tried a bunch of things on their menu. Another firm favourite of ours is the mapo dofu (NT$200), and we also recommend the Hainanese chicken rice (NT$160). The menu isn’t huge, and mostly contains variations of a few dishes. We’ve never ordered something we didn’t love.
What’s the vibe?
Busy, modern, and polished restaurant serving excellent Taiwanese-Chinese food.
Worth it?
Absolutely! There are probably cheaper options out there, but we’ve been consistently impressed with Mazendo. The service is great and the food is delicious. What’s not to love?
