Pizza by the Slice at Little New York Pizzeria

Little New York has been one of our favourite pizza places in Taipei every since we visited their original location in Songshan a couple years ago. The pizza is phenomenal, and it’s available in to-go slices (which is rare to find in Taipei). We love the vibe in the restaurant, and the fact that it’s listed on UberEats with some great delivery deals. That’s why we were beyond excited to hear they were opening a new location in Zhongshan! Check out our reviews of both locations below.

Zhongshan Location

Opened in February 2020, Little New York Pizzeria’s newest location has more of a modern rather than retro feel. It’s located just a short walk from Zhongshan MRT on a small, bustling alley full of restaurants.

The place was packed when we visited on a Saturday evening a couple weeks after opening. It’s not a big space, but they have a variety of seating options, including a long, high table suitable for larger groups, smaller tables, bar seating along the kitchen and window, and standing tables for overflow. We instantly loved the social atmosphere and the great music.

The main draw is the sliced pizza that’s ready to go behind the counter. A pepperoni (“New Yorker”) slice is just $100, with slightly higher prices for most other styles, which are subject to availability. Options were limited on the busy evening we visited, but the kitchen was churning out new pizzas to keep up with demand!

We got one of each of the available slices on our visit — one New Yorker (pepperoni), one Soho (spinach) and one Harlem (eggplant and ricotta). They were all delicious and the slices were big, so we felt satisfied but not stuffed.

If you opt for a full pizza, you can divide it half-and-half with different kinds. There are nearly 2 dozen options (see menu below). You can also make your own pizza by selecting from available toppings.

If you’re not feeling pizza (really?) there are salads, appetizers, and pastas on the menu. They’ve also got the Sunmai Honey Lager and Rye IPA on tap, in addition to their beer bottles that you can ask about at the counter. Finally, there’s a single option for dessert (and the only one needed): fried cookie dough balls. These are incredible, and although we haven’t tried them at the new location, we loved them at the Yanji location and also order them often through UberEats. Check them out in our review down below!

Yanji Location

Little New York Pizzeria’s original location is on Yanji Street, just under a ten-minute walk from both Zhongxiao Dunhua Station (blue line) and Taipei Arena Station (green line). Despite being slightly removed from the MRT lines, it’s completely worth a visit.

The restaurant is actually quite small, but with many people opting to take out or order in their pizza, getting a table doesn’t seem to be a problem. Even on a Friday night, we were easily able to walk in and grab a seat.

The walls are covered in some highly-Instagrammable murals, giving the place a fun, relaxed vibe. Wait staff were attentive and friendly, with good English and great advice on what to order. We liked that they didn’t encourage us to over-order either — they recommended just the right amount of food.

First things first, we made a beeline for beers. At $125 per pint and $350 for a pitcher of San Miguel, our choice was basically made for us. It was served immediately, and we got to work.

For food, we started off with Buffalo Hot Wings ($240 for 6 pieces) that came recommended by our waitress. The wings were spicy and delicious, slathered in plenty of sauce.

Next, we ordered a slice of pepperoni pizza ($100). The slice was huge and the pizza was delicious. If you aren’t too hungry, you might be satisfied with a single slice, but that definitely wasn’t the case for us. Our only gripe with the slice pizza is that they only have Margherita and pepperoni options, so you won’t be able to try the cool stuff on their menu unless you commit to buying an entire pizza.

Determined to go all-in but stuck on which flavours to choose, we were delighted to discover that (in most cases) you can split a pizza into two different types for each half. We ended up getting SOHO, with tomato sauce, Mozzarella cheese, spinach, and blue cheese, and Brooklyn, with tomato sauce, Mozzarella cheese, Spanish chorizo, minced garlic, and basil. The combined pizzas are the price of whichever pizza is more expensive, so our 12″ ended up costing us $450. There was quite a lot of food so we felt that this was reasonable, and the pizza was great. We loved the Brooklyn in particular for its rich, garlicky goodness, though SOHO wasn’t bad either.

Last but definitely not least, we caved and ordered their highly-recommended fried cookie dough ($140 for four pieces). These. Were. Incredible. We didn’t think it was possible to beat our love for the Brooklyn Pizza, but these were by far our favourite of all the things that we ordered. They were soft, sweet, and absolutely perfect.

All in all, we liked Little New York Pizzeria a lot. Although not cheap, we found everything to be priced reasonably and loved almost everything we ate. The Brooklyn pizza and fried cookie dough, in particular, were worth going back for, and after our experience, we would definitely come back to try other things on the menu. After all, who would say no to great pizza and a cheap pitcher of beer? Not us.

Small pizza joint with a cool vibe and to-go slices that are both delicious and reasonably priced.

Worth it?

Yes! We love the atmosphere, the beer, the pizza, and especially the fried cookie dough balls.

We’ve been back many times and often order LNY on UberEats!
