Bottomless Mimosa Brunch at the W Hotel

Day drinking isn’t much of a “thing” in Taipei, and we miss it. Back home, we’d take any opportunity to get tipsy at a fun venue on a Saturday afternoon, and still be home in time to sober up and get a good night’s sleep. In Taipei, options for day drinking are severely limited, and boozy brunches (our favourite) are virtually unheard of.

You can imagine our excitement when we finally found an excuse to splurge on the Kitchen Table’s bottomless bubbly brunch at the W Hotel in Xinyi. What better occasion than a birthday to get afternoon wasted on mimosas?

We called a couple weeks in advance to reserve a Saturday brunch table for 10. It’s highly recommended to book a table as far ahead of time as possible, because space is limited — the restaurant filled up completely while we were there. We were lucky enough to be seated in a somewhat secluded area next to the windows with a view of Taipei 101. Cheers!

Including service charge, buffet brunch costs NT$1,848 if you’re not drinking and NT$2,398 with unlimited sparkling wine. Obviously it isn’t cheap, but we made the most of our money by diving right into the alcohol and stuffing our faces with as much food as possible. Brunch runs from 12pm – 2:30pm, so we knew we had to get right down to business to take full advantage of the 2.5 hours we had. We had our work cut out for us — check out the buffet’s huge selection!

Considering it was buffet food, the quality was fantastic and there were a ton of options to please everyone — seafood and salad bars, omelette and carving stations, internationally sourced hot and cold dishes, specialty eggs benedict and chicken waffle plates, and plenty of desserts to satisfy our sweet teeth. Check out the full menu here.

We stayed for the full 2.5 hours, making frequent trips for more food and constantly waving down the servers for more booze. One limiting factor at bottomless brunches is the speed of service, and although it was decent at the Kitchen Table, there were times when it took them a while to refill our glasses. To be fair we were probably drinking a lot more than their average customer, but bottomless means bottomless! We were also a bit annoyed near the end when they cut us off at 2:15, a full fifteen minutes before 2:30 for seemingly no reason (they said they were only keeping out one more bottle of wine to be split between several tables). We weren’t rowdy, but perhaps they weren’t expecting us to have the capacity for wine that we did. Overall, the service was decent but could have been better.

On the other hand, they were kind enough to deliver this free birthday cake at the end of the meal. We were so stuffed we actually couldn’t finish it! We had a few bites and then headed outside to pay for more drinks at the poolside lounge area, where we had a fun time getting increasingly more drunk until the evening.

What’s the vibe?

Quality weekend brunch at the chic W Taipei. The buffet selection is huge and you can opt for bottomless sparkling wine.

Worth it?

For special occasions, yes. It’s not cheap, but NT$2,398 is still reasonable for 2.5 hours of unlimited booze and a great buffet with a creative, quality menu. Our only reservation was that the service was somewhat slow in refilling our drinks at times, to the point where we wondered if they were doing it on purpose.

Would you go back?

Overall we were satisfied and felt like we got our money’s worth through excessive eating and drinking. We’d definitely consider it for another celebration!
