Massive, Shareable Burgers in Shilin

Before you get too excited at the prospect of giant burgers, we should probably warn you now that the only thing that stands out about these burgers are their size. Although they’re not the worst burgers we’ve had, they’re nowhere near the best, even in Taipei. We didn’t have particularly high hopes when we went, and it’s probably for the best if you don’t either.

Huge Burger is located inside the Shilin Night Market area. Despite having walked past it a million times, it never caught our eye — it wasn’t until it popped up on Google that we decided to check it out.

The decoration inside is pretty low-budget, but that didn’t bother us since we were just stopping by with friends.

Huge Burger serves appetizers, spaghetti, steaks, chicken, and normal size burgers in addition to their supersize burgers. Since we were here specifically for the shareable burgers, we ordered two between four people and decided to skip the rest. Of the lot, the most appealing sounding burgers were the peanut butter beef and the Thai-style spicy crispy chicken, both NT$348. We paid at the counter. To our surprise, the meal included free, refillable drinks for four people. Score!

The peanut butter beef burger arrived first, and we oggled at the size — this is not a one-man job. The burger almost entirely filled the serving plate that it was on. Although they are cut into four, we had to saw at it for a long time to pull it apart. We were then pretty disappointed to discover that instead of a huge patty under that huge bun, there are four individual patties.

The patties themselves weren’t great — a little bland — but the peanut butter was an interesting addition, and they didn’t skimp out. Peanut butter oozed out of the burger, making it hard to eat with our hands. The fries weren’t bad, and we started feeling pretty full.

The second burger, Thai-style Spicy Chicken, was better than the first, but not as good as it could have been. The chicken was a little soggy instead of crispy, and there wasn’t a whole lot of sauce. We doused it in ketchup and mustard, which improved it.

The one thing we really liked about Huge Burger was the refillable drinks. They have Pepsi, Seven-Up, water, lemon tea, grape soda, milk tea, and orange soda, with an automatic ice dispenser. We pounded the sodas to get our money’s worth.

Here’s their menu, which we pulled from their Facebook page. They have quite a few different kinds of supersize burgers, and lots of options for their regular burgers. If their supersize burgers are anything to go by, their regular burgers won’t be anything too special. Still, they weren’t the worst, and we saw lots of satisfied customers leaving reviews on Google. This place is probably best suited for families and people coming strictly to experience the huge burgers, and it’s a pretty good deal if you split a single burger between four people.

What’s the vibe?

Hole-in-the-wall burger joint inside Shilin Night Market. We were the only foreigners there — the crowd was mostly young Taiwanese people hanging out with friends.

Worth it?

Not really. The burgers weren’t great and the novelty wore off really fast. Still, it wasn’t ridiculously expensive and we left feeling stuffed, so it’s really your call.

Would you go back?

Definitely not. We already have a go-to burger place that blows us away every time!
