Get Drunk with Beanbags and Sandpits

There’s a bar near Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall that’s simply called Drunk Cafe. This one is worth checking out for the atmosphere. The drinks are alright, but the real appeal is how great each of its three areas look. And yes, there’s literally a sandpit in an enclosed tent with beanbags. What better place to get wasted?

The indoor bar is the most upbeat area of Drunk Cafe, but it maintains a subdued vibe. It looks great with fairy lights dangling from the ceiling and fluorescent lights spelling messages on the walls. There are comfy couches to relax.

If you head through the bar, you’ll step outside into an enclosed tent area that has a sandpit in the middle. It’s very chill with a screen projected onto the side of the tent and lanterns that create a romantic glow at night. This place also looks immaculate.

Outside the tent is an outdoor area with patio lights strung up and more comfy seating options. There wasn’t anyone out here when we visited on a Saturday evening.

For our first round of drinks we ordered a mojito and a vodka cocktail with apple and almond, both for NT$300. They were decent but not worth that much money. We reasoned we were paying for the atmosphere.

For the second round of drinks we got a red sangria and a rum cocktail with kiwi, cucumber, midori, and apple, each for NT$300 again. The sangria met expectations while the cocktail was really good and perfectly balanced. Of the 4 cocktails we ordered, this was the one we were impressed with.

Note that Drunk Cafe closes from 5 – 6pm every evening while they reset for the night crowd.

Make sure you call ahead to book a reservation in the evening, because this place is popular! Otherwise you’ll be stuck with a LONG wait.

What’s the vibe?

Drunk Cafe has 3 seating areas: the inside, the outdoor tent area, and the outdoor patio. The indoor area is lit with fairy lights on the ceiling, candles on the tables, and fluorescent lights on the walls. It’s the most upbeat area, with comfy couches and a bar for seating. The tent area is quite subdued: it’s full of plants and has an actual sandpit with beanbags inside. There’s a screen projected onto the side of the tent and also candles and lanterns at night that create a romantic atmosphere. The outside area was dead when we visited, but it looked cool with hanging patio lights and bean bag chairs. All 3 areas had a lot of visual appeal.

Worth it?

That depends, but in our opinion the drinks weren’t quite worth the price. You can find much better cocktails in Taipei for NT$300 or sightly more. Here, you’re more paying for the atmosphere, which is admittedly really cool.

Would you go back?

Yes (and we have). The cool atmosphere is worth returning to. We’d most recommend this place for afternoon drinks, or for a nice, subdued date spot in the evening.
