Continue? Gaming Bar: Video Games, Bar Food, and Themed Drinks

We stumbled upon Continue? Gaming Bar accidentally while we were searching for food on a Saturday evening. It looked intriguing so we decided to give it a try — and were glad we did! Located between Songjiang Nanjing and Zhongxiao Xinsheng stations on the orange line, this two-floor bar offers customers a chance to play a variety of games while sipping themed cocktails and eating some surprisingly good bar food.

Across the 2 floors of the bar, there are plenty of different “stations” for playing video games. Most come with comfortable couches that you can book in advance for a fee. Reservations for a console cost $300 on weekdays or $350 on weekends. There’s also a VIP room with a private PS4 that costs $3000/$4500 to book on weekdays and weekends respectively.

The bar has a huge range of different games available to play, from old school fighting games like Mortal Combat to shooters like Call of Duty, active games like Just Dance, and social games like Mario Party.

Since we just walked in without a reservation on a Saturday evening, almost everything was booked already and we had to sit at the bar. We didn’t mind too much though; the atmosphere was energized and we had fun watching different groups playing their respective games (especially the Just Dance crew).

Basically all of the food and drinks are video game themed, making for some pretty amusing menu discoveries. We were in a bit of a rush that night and didn’t order any cocktails, but a lot of the drinks appeared to be quite extra. We can’t vouch for their taste, but check out some of the crazy presentations:

The Diablo (NT$320): rum, dragon fruit, pineapple, apple juice

The Pikachu Thunderbolt (NT$320): vodka, passion fruit, lychee liquor

What our group had come to do was eat. We weren’t sure what to expect of the bar food but it ended up tasting pretty good, with generous portion sizes. Here’s what we got:

The Large Fries with BBQ Pulled Pork (NT$280) were definitely our favourite food item. The fries were nice and crispy, and they were smothered in a delicious combination of sauce, cheese, and meat, with an egg on top. The price was reasonable considering the huge portion size — we’d recommend sharing this one.

The Winner Winner Chicken Sub (NT$310) contained a sloppy yet appetizing mix of chicken, vegetables, cheese, and jalapeños to give it some kick. These ingredients didn’t seem to be of the highest quality, but the sandwich still tasted great. The accompanying fries were also crispy and nicely seasoned. While we may not be satisfied with this sub at a sit-down restaurant, it made for perfect bar food.

The Charizard Fried Chicken (NT$250) arrived with an open flame, which was quite exciting. It comes in two spice levels: Charmander and Charizard. We’re glad we went with the former and milder version because they were still spicy as hell. Though the sauce was good and we liked their boneless nature, the chicken fingers were our least favourite dish. They were slightly mushy and didn’t leave much of an impression. Still, they weren’t bad for bar food, and some of our friends couldn’t get enough. We actually took them with us to the next bar, where we ended up dishing them out to strangers. One stranger in particular was really taken with them, demanding to know where they had been bought — so maybe we were being too harsh. Try them and see!

What’s the vibe?

Dimly lit bar with 2 floors and plenty of screens for playing a variety of video games. Reservations of consoles and the VIP room can be made in advance for a fee. They serve video game-themed drinks and great bar food. Customers were mostly happy, young, and Taiwanese. Expect lots of big groups.

Worth it?

We thought so! We’ve heard mixed reviews (including one friend who hated her experience), but Continue? Gaming Bar actually exceeded our expectations (and we didn’t even play any video games). Though we can’t comment on the cocktails, the bar food was quite enjoyable — especially the BBQ pulled pork fries, which were bomb.

Would you go back?

Yes! We stumbled upon this place without any reservations (so we had to sit at the bar) and because we were in a bit of a rush, we didn’t order any cocktails. Next time, we’ll make a reservation so we can chill on the couches, play some games, and order more drinks!
