Cheap Cheesy Breakfast Sandwich in Zhongshan

Images of cheese oozing down the side of stacked pork sandwiches has launched Comida into online fame. This hole-in-the-wall breakfast counter, located a short walk from the Ambassador Hotel in Zhongshan, is so popular that it forms lineups of hungry locals and foreigners every Wednesday – Sunday morning.

The unassuming restaurant includes a small kitchen with a window for ordering and a simple collection of plastic tables and seats crammed onto the sidewalk. The line was short when we arrived on a weekday, but we’ve heard it can get long on weekends.

There’s no English menu yet – they told us they’re working on one – but it was easy enough to order using the pictures of the food on the walls. After ordering at the counter we managed to snag a table and didn’t have to wait long for our food to arrive.

There are many different sizes and variations of the same sandwich, using combinations of pork, egg, and cheese stacked together, but all are available for less than NT$100.

Both our sandwiches were very tasty, and our milk teas washed them down nicely.

What’s the vibe?

High turnover hole-in-the-wall breakfast counter with plastic tables, chairs, and stools set up on the sidewalk. After lining up to place your order at the counter, you might have to wait for a seat while your food is being prepared.

Worth it?

Yes.

The meal was cheap and very enjoyable – a better alternative to McMuffins. The line didn’t take long and our sandwiches came quickly.

Would you go back?

Yes.

It may or may not be worth travelling across the city for, but if you find yourself in Zhongshan one morning, consider this quick and cheesy breakfast option.
