Work in (Inner) Peace at This Beautiful, Modern Tea House

C-Tea Loft near Taipower Building is a gorgeous tea house that just happens to be one of our new favourite places. It is an oasis of calm and quiet, perfect for catching up with friends, studying, or working on your laptop, and is more than deserving of its 4.8 rating on Google.

C-Tea Loft originally caught our attention because of its beautiful, plant-adorned entrance, through which we could see people sitting on the floor on comfy-looking mats. We loved the leafy, relaxed atmosphere the moment we stepped in, and were curious to see what was on offer inside.

The interior is pleasantly decorated in hues of green and white, with exposed brick and wood giving the place a calm, modern, minimalistic feel. Large tins of tea provide a spash of colour, and add a more traditional element to the decor. There are many tables to choose from inside, as well as a couple outside, and two cute cats patrol the floors, waiting to be petted.

The cafe feels very clean and cozy, with nice little touches (such as a beautiful mural on one wall) here and there that make it a very pleasant spot to sit and relax. Customers tend to be on the quiet side, taking advantage of the many outlets to work on their computer, read a book, or talk quietly with their friends. One of the main things that we love about C-Tea Loft is that there is no time limit — unlike all our other favourite Taipei cafes, you are free to sit for however long you like. The experience of drinking tea lends itself perfectly to this, and it’s a big bonus to be able to finish your pot without feeling rushed to leave.

The owners at C-Tea Loft are very serious about their teas, and their menus reflect this — don’t come here for coffee or juice, because you simply won’t find any. Customers are free to browse their display of loose-leaf and bagged tea, which is priced at around $300-$400. We initially felt that this was rather pricey, but upon trying some for ourselves we were instantly sold. The lovely owners were very happy to guide us through some of their favourites, as well as explain the many different kind of teas on offer.

On their menu, they have a huge variety of oolong and black teas, as well as a herbal, fruit and rooibos teas. In addition to this, they pride themselves on an impressive selection of creatively blended teas, many of which we had never seen before. Being tea lovers, we naturally anguished over each and every option, wishing that we had brought more people along so that we could try even more. We were delighted to discover that most teas ranged from $120-$180 in price, a total steal compared to other tea houses that we have frequented in the past.

In the end, we chose a pot of oolong and chamomile blended tea, as well as a cold-brew butterfly pea and green tea blended tea. The oolong/camomile was warm and soothing. It wasn’t bitter at all, and both flavours came through without overpowering each other. It was the perfect relaxing brew for a rainy day. The cold brew butterfly pea and green tea was perfectly chilled, the pleasant, distinctive taste of the butterfly pea perfectly complemented by the green tea base. It was crisp and refreshing, not to mention a gorgeous, very photogenic colour. We had already decided we were in love even before we were told that both teas came with one free refill — more hot water for the pot, and a whole new cup for the butterfly pea green tea. What a deal!

In addition to tea, C-Tea Loft offers a few sweet treats and a few savoury pies. Since we had just purchased a big bag of sweets from We Love Cookies across the street, we opted for one of the pies.

With low expectation, we ordered a salmon pie — and were pleasantly surprised. The crust was dense and flaky, and the creamy salmon filling was tender and well-seasoned. It wasn’t quite as good as the pot pies we’ve had in the west, but they were good enough that we would order them again.

All in all, we couldn’t believe our luck at finding C-Tea Loft. It has the best elements of a library, study area, tea house, and pet cafe rolled into one, and is hands-down our favourite spot for working, ever. The tea is absolutely delicious and reasonably priced, and the owners will help you find something perfectly suited to your taste. We loved the unpretentious, cozy setting for both socialising and chilling.

What’s the vibe?

Cozy, relaxed tea house with a modern, quiet vibe. Expect lots of students and people working or chatting quietly among themselves.

Worth it?

SO worth it! Whether you’re there for the tea or the peaceful environment, C-Tea Loft won’t disappoint. It’s a great place to spend some quiet time, and a good spot to start your journey into tea-tasting.

Would you go there again?

Hell yeah!  You’ll find us holed up their with our laptops or our books, drinking tea until we burst.
