[CLOSED] There Is Literally a Shooting Range Inside This WWII-Themed Bar

While it may be common to find games like darts, pool, or foosball in a bar, we had never heard of any place that has a shooting range — that is, until we stumbled across Bunker 1942. Located in Zhongxiao Dunhua, Bunker 1942 is a bar and restaurant with a World War 2 theme. They have a creative drinks menu with a large section dedicated to war-inspired cocktails, and great care has been taken to decorate using WWII memorabilia, but the real star of the show is an Airsoft shooting range at the back of the bar.

You would think that any bar with as cool a concept as this one would be packed, but it actually wasn’t too crowded. At the time that these photos were taken it was still early in the night, and even though it started to pick up later on, there were still a few tables available.

In addition to about eight two-seater tables, there are ten seats at the bar where regulars sit to chat with the bartenders. There is also one larger room at the back available for groups who want a more private space — good call, since tables at the front are quite close to each other, and noise might become a problem if you’re planning on getting wild.

The atmosphere is very relaxed and casual, and we were pleased to see that we didn’t have to dress up much. The vibe lends itself well to a nice chat over drinks, but, depending on your mood, can feel a little subdued at times. Luckily, this is where the shooting range really shines — it adds a touch of excitement to an otherwise mellow night.

The range is available for all customers to use, and costs $100 for pistols and $150 for rifles per person per game. A staff member will accompany you to help you load your gun, as well as to keep track of the targets — if you can hit eight of the fourteen targets you will be rewarded with a free shot. Players will be given goggles while they are shooting, but we recommend putting some on even if you aren’t — the pellets bounce around pretty aggressively, and we narrowly avoided being hit on a few occasions. The game doesn’t take very long — only a minute or two per person — but it’s really fun. We could totally imagine blowing a ridiculous amount of money playing it wasted. You’ve been warned!

We didn’t have high hopes for the drinks — although their menu looked cool — but we were pleasantly surprised. We ordered the Bunker Iced Tea ($320) with black tea, Laphroaig 10, pomelo, and umeshu, and the Eldercha ($320) with Beefeater 24, elderflower, matcha, honey, apple, and lemon. Both drinks were really good, and although they weren’t our favourite cocktails in Taipei, we enjoyed them for their creativity.

Overall, we quite enjoyed our time at Bunker 1942. It’s not quite our style of bar, but we appreciated the effort they’ve taken to stick to the WWII theme. The shooting range is a really fun, unique addition to a night out, and we’d definitely consider taking friends or visitors here in the future.

What’s the vibe?

Somewhat upscale bar with a WWII theme. It’s a little pricey, but other than that feels very comfortable, so you don’t really have to worry about dressing up. On the occasions that we have been, most customers were Taiwanese, mostly between 20-40 years old. The atmosphere is pretty relaxed, so it’s best to bring your own crew if you’re in the mood for something lively.

Worth it?

That depends. It’s not cheap (do note that there is sometimes a $500 minimum spend) and when we went there wasn’t much atmosphere to speak of. However, we enjoyed our drinks, and the shooting range is definitely novel. It’s really your call.

Would you go back?

Probably not, now that we’ve experienced it once. We enjoyed going there as a one-off break from our usual bar-hopping escapades, but it wasn’t quite lively enough for us to want to go back. Still, it’s a great place to know of, just for the random factor — we’d definitely consider taking a visitor!
