There is no shortage of healthy restaurants in Taipei, and we’re always excited when we come across another. One of our more recent discoveries was Aone Eatery, a tiny new restaurant located near Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall Station, specializing in buddha bowls and healthy snacks. With an impressive 4.8 rating and a sleek, modern interior, Aone has captured the interest of gym bunnies and the health-conscious all over Taipei. Their modest menu focuses on quality ingredients that are as nutritious that they are delicious, with simple dishes that pack a punch in the flavour department.

We visited on a weekday evening, and started our meal with a couple of smoothies: the pineapple banana smoothie (left, $95) made with pineapple, banana, and natural sugar-free yoghurt, and the strawberry acai smoothie (right, $185) made with strawberries, chia seeds, coconut water, banana and acai. These were both very nice (though admittedly nothing revolutionary), and we liked that they weren’t too sweet. We’re not too sure that the acai was worth an extra $100, but we enjoyed both drinks all the same — maybe next time if we want to stick to a budget, we’ll go with the pineapple smoothie only.

The first bowl we got was the Shake It Up ($185), made with salsa, avocado, yoghurt, lettuce, corn, edamame, lettuce, Taiwanese black rice and tofu. This Mexican-inspired bowl was hearty yet still relatively light, the vegetables adding a nice freshness that balanced out the rice. The sweet, tangy dressing was an extra nice touch.

Next, we got the Aloha! Good Day bowl ($165), made with pan-fried pineapple, almond flakes, low GI coconut teriyaki sauce, natural coconut milk rice, chicken breast, and salad. This was a delicious, slightly-tropical combination that worked nicely together. We were particularly impressed by the coconut rice, which had a creamy, fluffy texture. This bowl was on the sweet side, but we loved it all the same.

The last bowl we got was the Everyone Loves Salmon Bowl ($275), which was advertised as containing pan-fried salmon cubes, coconut rice, broccoli and other assorted vegetables. When we received the bowl, it looked a little different — they had substituted several of our veggies with their seasonal equivalent. We had been hoping for the ingredients that were advertised on the menu, but they were at least happy to swap some out according to our preferences. It was nice to see how willing they were to make substitutions. We did like this bowl, but in all honesty, we probably wouldn’t order it again — it was significantly more expensive and we didn’t feel like the jump in price was worth it.

Overall, we really liked the food that we ordered at Aone Eatery — everything was healthy, fresh and filling, with a nice balance of flavours. Other than the acai smoothie and the salmon bowl we felt like everything was pretty reasonably priced, so we would have no problem coming back for a healthy meal or two once in a while.

Worth it?

Other than the salmon bowl and the acai smoothie, everything was priced pretty affordably, so yes.

Would you go back?

We would stop by if we were in the area.
