We rarely venture to the Dahu Park area of Neihu as it’s so far from the city centre, but we recently discovered a gem of a restaurant that was completely worth the commute. We had never heard of Andrea Style until we stumbled across it as we were starting a hike, and were surprised that such a nice place had flown under our radar for so long. With an Italian chef and a small, creative menu full of mouth-watering dishes, this was some of the nicest, most authentic Italian food we’ve had in Taipei so far.

Andrea Style is a little hard to find as the Google Maps location was slightly off, but we eventually got there by keeping a sharp eye on the street numbers. The restaurant is small and intimate, with a sleek, modern-looking interior that was polished yet cosy. We were immediately enticed by the wonderful smells and had a hard time choosing what to eat from the menu as everything looked delicious. Andrea Style accepts cash only and isn’t exactly cheap, so we had to dash off to a nearby ATM before we could place our order and pay — make sure to bring cash with you so you don’t end up in the same predicament.

Since we’d heard that pizza was a speciality of theirs, we knew we’d have to try one. Each pizza at Andreas Style is made to order with a thick sourdough base, fresh hand-made mozzarella cheese, and Italian San Marzano tomato sauce. After much deliberation, we decided on the Smell Good ($550), which was topped with Sedor’s Farm pancetta ham, organic zucchini, garlic, and extra virgin olive oil. It was delicious. The dough was thick and chewy, the pancetta ham was silky and soft, and the flavour of the zucchini was really brought to life by the garlic and olive oil. We wouldn’t normally have chosen this combination of toppings for pizza, but they worked very well together.

Next, we got the Orrechiette ($650), with hand-made sausage meat, porcini mushrooms, and parmesan cheese. All of the pasta at Andreas style is hand-made with unmilled durum meat and the first thing that we noticed as we bit into it was how dense and springy it was. Everything about this pasta was magnificent — the sausage was beautifully seasoned, the porcini mushrooms were tender, with a mild nutty flavour, and the shavings of parmesan added a richness that tied everything together beautifully.

The last thing we ordered was the Egg Tortelli ($650), with seafood ricotta cheese filling, shishamo fish roe, and cream cheese. This was also excellent, with an indulgent, creamy sauce that tasted strongly of seafood while still being quite delicate. We loved the addition of the roe, which was relatively mild in taste but added a slight graininess that broke up the rich texture, and the wonderfully fragrant olive oil that we could taste with every bite. Do note that this dish was heavy on the seafood flavour, so if you don’t like fish, you should stay far away.

We had an incredible meal at Andrea Style, and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking for some seriously high-quality Italian food in Neihu. It is rather pricey, but we all agreed that the food was completely worth what we paid, clearly prepared with skill and fresh, premium ingredients. With its sleek interior and incredible menu, Andrea Style is firmly on our list of cute date spots, and we know we’ll be back in the future to try some of their other dishes.

What’s the vibe?

Small, modern Italian restaurant in a quiet neighbourhood in Neihu. Customers are a mix of locals and foreigners.

Worth it?

If you don’t mind paying a little more than usual, yes. The food is fantastic.

Would you go back?

Yes, but only for a special occasion since it’s rather pricey.
