Best Cafes in Minsheng Community: All Day Roasting Company

Minsheng Community in Songshan is home to tons of cute cafes, but one of our very favourites is All Day Roasting Company. This cafe takes it’s coffee seriously and is a beautifully designed space that serves some of the best coffee in the city without feeling pretentious. Prices are on the high to reflect its high quality, but this place is definitely worth checking out — even for the atmosphere alone.

We first visited All Day Roasting Company more than two years ago and were just as impressed upon returning as we had been the first time around. The first thing we’ve always noticed is how immaculate the interior is. Beyond a heavy wooden door, sun pours into an air-conditioned indoor terrace that opens up into the rest of the cafe. The design is woody and minimalist, with abundant space and variable lighting. There are also plenty of plugs for charging, making it an excellent place for quietly finishing up some work.

Since it was a hot day, we were craving an iced Americano. They didn’t have this, but they did have a cold brew coffee ($180) which they assured us would hit the spot. We weren’t convinced — we’ve had lots of weak, watery cold brews in the past that have left us feeling unimpressed — but this turned out to be great. It was unexpectedly strong, cold, and full-bodied, and very refreshing during the heat. We’d come back for this for sure.

Last time we went to All Day Roasting Company, we’d tried their peanut butter latte ($180), which was deliciously smooth and nutty while still quite strong. We wanted to order this again, but unfortunately, there were out — instead, we took a risk and ordered their parsley and roasted nut latte ($180). We did this for the novelty factor alone, but it actually turned out great: you could definitely taste the parsley as you first took a sip, but the earthiness of the roasted nuts and strong espresso balanced the flavours out. Surprisingly, we would order this again.

We’ve always heard great things about the food at All Day Roasting Company, so we finally caved and decided to order some desserts. The first one we chose was their apple pie, which was quite interesting because it had a creamy, cheesecake-like top that made it stand out from other apple pies we’ve had in the past. Even though it wasn’t traditional, it was still amazing: it retained all the classic flavour of apple pie while getting playful with the cheesecake, and the two parts worked really well together. We’d definitely order this again.

Next, we had a whiskey cheesecake, which was one of their specials that day. To be honest, we couldn’t taste any whiskey in it at all, but it was still deliciously soft and creamy. We’d probably have enjoyed it more if they had introduced it as a regular cheesecake since we were so preoccupied with trying to taste the whiskey, but it truly was excellent.

Overall, we were just as impressed with All Day Roasting Company as we were when we visited years ago — they take their coffee seriously, their desserts are divine, and they provide a beautiful, relaxing atmosphere that’s great for socializing, relaxing, or getting some work done. The staff were nice and helpful, and competent at introducing the items on their menu and making recommendations in English. Minsheng Community has so many great cafes that it’s hard to choose just one favourite, but if we were pressed for choice, this would be it.

What’s the vibe?

Laid-back chic, with minimalist design and a cool atmosphere. This place is great for hanging out or for getting some work done on free Wi-Fi, or chatting with friends while you sip some high-quality coffee.

Worth it?

Yes.

Prices are on the high side, but in our opinion, they’re worth paying when you want to treat yourself. Everything is delicious, and the atmosphere is on point.

Would you go back?

We’ve been back, and loved it!
