We signed up for the Taipei Chill Out tour on a gorgeous Sunday afternoon in January.

We met at Exit 5 of Da’an Park Station at 2pm. Our 2 guides, Bridget and Juno, were waiting with orange name tags at the top of the stairs.

After the group assembled, they gave an introduction and we set off.

Our first stop was Da’an Park. We listened to some interesting facts about the history of the area and then went for a casual walk along the trails. The weather was beautiful; the park was full of families enjoying the sunshine.

We also got a chance to walk barefoot along this reflexology path. The stones digging in were painful, but our feet felt great after.

After the park, we walked down Xinsheng South Road and checked out some of the religious sites including a Catholic Church and Taipei Grand Mosque, which are just a short distance apart.

The quiet backroads of Da’an are perfect for a peaceful stroll. We checked out a teahouse and some cool architecture.

Next we stopped at one of the oldest antique markets in Taiwan and learned about tea culture.

Yongkang Street, one of the hearts of the Taiwanese food scene, was our next destination. It’s home to the original Din Tai Fung and famous for beef noodle soup, mango shaved ice, dumplings, and bubble milk tea.

Our tour guides gave us 20 minutes to split up and explore the area by ourselves. We went straight for the bubble milk tea and stood in line for spring onion pancakes at a famous street stall.

Our final stop was Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall. Unfortunately it’s undergoing renovations right now so we didn’t go inside, but we got a brief history lesson anyway. The sun was setting and lights were turning on, giving the grounds a serene atmosphere.

The tour lasted just over 3 hours in total. We got a group photo at the end and handed in optional donations to the tour guides in red envelopes.

Huge thanks to our awesome tour guides Bridget and Juno! They were funny, informative, and made an effort to chat to each person one-on-one throughout the tour, answering questions and giving personal anecdotes about life in Taipei.
