HEXA Cafe: New and Ready For Instagram

Recently opened HEXA is trending online. This chic cafe and shop near Da’an MRT looks gorgeous with its sleek, modern interior and minimalist menu of basic coffee and tea drinks, salads, and cakes. Now calling all young female instagrammers!

After seeing HEXA explode in popularity online, we decided we needed to check it out ourselves. We dropped in on a Saturday afternoon to find the cafe packed with women taking photos of their food. The friendly staff informed us that there was a 1.5 hour wait for a table!

So we came back that evening, and we must admit the cafe looks great after dark. It was also much less crowded.

We ordered a simple milk tea for NT$130 and a sesame cake (the most popular item on instagram) for a steep price of NT$240.

The milk tea was basic and the cake was a little bit dry and plain, although the sesame mousse at the centre was quite nice. If you’re into sesame flavour, you’d enjoy it.

What’s the vibe?

Modern design with a trendy shop and sleek interior. The cafe’s exploding popularity online has made its cushioned benches packed full of women taking selfies.

Worth it?

No.

While the staff was friendly and the cafe photographs well, the drinks and desserts aren’t anything to write home about and certainly aren’t worth the price tag.

Would you go back?

Probably not.

While we must admit the salads look tasty, HEXA seems like the type of place that’s crazy popular when the doors open but won’t have the cake to back it up when the hype dies.
